It all started on a train from Milan to Florence. It was the first time I had asked a stranger if I could take their portrait. From this moment, started an adventure. On every visit to Italy I found myself doing another portrait. I was so over whelmed with the warmth of Italian women - their enthusiasm, their sense of fun, their honesty and their pure love of life. Incredibly every woman I approached agreed to be photographed – this openness and trust was a gift. There were times I certainly felt more nervous than my subjects - there is something very intimate about taking a stranger’s portrait. In 2006 I packed a small bag and my cameras and with no plan went to Italy to concentrate on developing this project. I let fate take its course and found myself everywhere from small villages in the North to the hustle and bustle of life in Naples. I wanted to capture the beauty of modern Italian women just as I experienced it.On this journey I met some amazing women from all walks of life and of all different ages. Every woman had a story and I just had the pleasure of capturing these tales of love, loss and life.
